The 49th ACM AWARDS – What’s in store?

Tuesday, April 1st, 2014

The Academy of Country Music Awards show is just a few days away! This year marks the 49th anniversary for the awards. The Academy plans to make this the best year yet for the over 15 million projected viewers with surprise  announcements and performances from award nominees, long time legends and rising stars.

We will see a duet between The Voice coaches Blake Shelton and Shakira on their new track “Medicine.” According to executive producer R. A. Clark “Shakira’s folks reached out to us, saying we have this opportunity, would you be interested? As producers we’re always looking for these moments when we can bring folks together. We think its great for the show.”  Also collaborating on the stage will be Lady Antebellum and Stevie Nicks.

As well as celebrating the new sound of country music, the ACMs will honor the lifetime contributions from Merle Haggard with the Crystal Milestone AwardGeorge Strait and Miranda Lambert will pay tribute to the legend by preforming a medley of his songs. This year is the 50th anniversary of Merle Haggard winning the Best New Artist award which then led Top Male Vocalist and Entertainer of the year, making him the first Triple Crown Winner who has won all three prestigious awards.

The show will take over the Vegas strip with hosts Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan presenting from the MGM Grand Garden Arena along with a party of performances going on at the Mandalay Bay with Florida Georgia Line, Brett Eldredge, Kip Moore and Justin Moore.

For the first time, voting has gone global by expanding down under! Fans from Australia along with Canada and the US will be able to share their choices for different categories like the much anticipated Entertainer Of The Year between friendly rivals and co-hosts Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton. Also running against Blake Shelton is his wife Miranda Lambert. The nominees are rounded out with king of country music George Strait and the symbol of youth and excitement, Taylor Swift.

ACM AWARDS will air live  on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 8:00 PM live ET/delayed PT on the CBS Television Network.
