Witt Stewart & Jessi Colter (Photo: Julie King)THE MUSIC INSIDE: A COLLABORATION DEDICATED TO WAYLON JENNINGS
The late Waylon Jennings, the Legend from Lubbock, TX gets a fresh musical remake by a select Nashville artists. The First Volume of the upcoming Three Volume Production will be commercially released on the week of the ninth anniversary of his death, February 8th.
In our recent interview with both Witt Stewart and Jessi Colter, Witt revealed that their long list of current Nashville artists did not come along right away. In fact, they started out just with Jessi Colter, Shooter Jennings and Kris Kristofferson. It became clear early on that Witt wanted to think “out of the box” and add Waylon’s music also interpreted by today’s artists in their own styles. It was a long process but adding James Otto, Randy Houser and Jamey Johnson who already were huge Waylon fans, was the easy part. Trace Adkins and the legendary Alabama (they reunited just for the recording) were also honored to be a part.
“It’s a huge honor to be a part of this project that pays tribute to Waylon. He is a true legend, ” says Adkins. ”Getting to record this song with the original “Waylons” who helped bring life to all of his great music, was also really special and something I’ll always remember.”
Stay tuned for volume 2 and 3 and according to Witt, “you never know if there will be a 4th or 5th”.
The full list of artists on the first album are:
Jamey Johnson, Alabama, Randy Houser, Shooter Jennings, Sunny Sweeney, Jessi Colter, James Otto, John Hiatt, Kris Kristofferson, Patty Griffin, Trace Adkins and Chanel Campbell.

Waylon – The music Inside Volume 1 is a production of Scatter Records and Big Machine Records.
